Does Comprehensive Insurance Cover Damage To My Boat By Leaving In The Drain Plug And Filling With Rainwater?

My policy just says events other than collision. This doesn’t meet any of the exclusions.

  1. I’d bet no, it’s not covered. But I’ve seen more than a few boats like this, and very little damage to the boat. Sometimes you have to work on an engine and rebuild a starter, but often the actual damage is minimal. Good Luck!

  3. NO. The Other answerer was right. It comes under Neglect, in other words, “It’s YOUR FAULT.” Read Your Policy, & if that’s still not clear enough, ASK Your insurance agency! ,,,,, ONE POINT;;; Your Insurance Agency might try to get out of paying by calling this an “Act of God.” … Certainly one could say that the rain was an Act of God, but God didn’t leave the plug in Your boat! ………. You MIGHT have a Claim IFFF You could prove that the damage caused by the rain would have happened even if the plug had been removed, ORRR, IF You can prove that the rain damage ocurred while you were ON the water, which would have made removing the plug & putting a tarp over it quite impossible. At a Guess, I would say that You Need a Good Lawyer & a better insurance policy with Someone Else!

  5. What damage that was done to the boat by leaving the drain plug in, does it super cede your deductible? If it does then you could say it was an act of vandalism and shove a stick in there. Might help.!

  7. That’s a tough one. That is considered neglect so you might read your policy for that type of exclusion. I’m sure it’s there somewhere.
