  1. Nothing is free, I don’t know where all you people think this is a “free” give away. We Citizens will be paying for such a health insurance plan. You are correct that Hawaii has such an insurance plan for its’ residents. You are also correct in that IT IS BEING SHUT DOWN BECAUSE IT DOES NOT WORK & IS TOO EXPENSIVE.

  3. Hawaii (and Alaska) are always unique cases due to their distance from the mainland and unique resources. They can not be used to project a case for what would happen in the rest of the country.
The federal government has never negotiated pharmacy costs with the big pharmaceutical companies. The health insurers are pulling a profit stream out of the health care dollar, too.
If the companies are not providing adequate insurance – then why should people stay with it.

  5. Personally I think if we want to do it we should model our socialized health plan after Japan. There everything you want done is totally paid for. The people live longer than anywhere else in the world. They live so long because of their diet and they wont see a doctor. The reason they dont go to the doctor and abuse health care is because everything is paid for. When they do go the doctor runs every possible latest test and its such a hassle people only go when they really need it but get great care. The average hospital bed stay is like 6 times longer than here and so people are just like oh no I have to go to the doctor! It sounds funny but its the best working socialized health care plan in existence.

  7. Maybe you should check out how people in other countries fare with socialized medicine- the things you have heard (month long waits for surgery, delayed surgeries, shoddy hygeine) are not true- open up your eyes! No one would continue to pay for high priced, low quality health insurance when better healthcare options were offered for free. I mean, are you kidding?

  9. The Democrats really believed that people would not act in their own self-interest and take the insurance that cost them the least out-of-pocket. And let’s face it, employers wouldn’t have discouraged that either.
What do you want to bet that the “free” insurance had a much higher claims rate. That’s why you have co-pays – to make you THINK about whether you really need this doctor visit. Things that are “free” to you have little perceived value, but even a tiny cost will make people more aware of using that resource.

  11. I live on the border with Canada and work in an institution that includes a hospital. Until you’ve met Americans who’ve waited 10 years to get stupid things like nail fungus properly treated because they didn’t have health care, don’t discuss Socialized medicine.
Because when you go for 10 years without treatment waiting a few weeks doesn’t sound bad at all.

  13. Which would be a great benefit to all businesses. My company pays more to health insurance companies than any other vendor. Imagine if that burden was taken away from American companies. They might even be able to pay me more instead of giving money to greedy insurance companies.

  17. Probably a lot of peoople. But there’s nothing in Obama’s health plan that suggests doing that. So your question is pointless.

  19. There are people who will attempt to abuse any program, that is the reason for the high cost of any good intention going bad.
