Rental Car — To Tow Or Not To Tow?

Planned to go fishing this Saturday, but yesterday I got rear-ended on the way home from work. Put the Explorer in the shop today — when the body shop guy called Enterprise, he told ‘em I wanted something I could tow with. They told him that’s not allowed.
Anyways, now I got this brand new F150 in the driveway, and nowhere in the rental contract is towing mentioned, and I even read the small print. Naturally, I didn’t ask the Enterprise people for permission.
My liability insurance covers boat & trailer while its hitched to my car (it’s too old for collision). I’m not entirely clear on whether I get the same deal with a rental.
Towing weight is well within the vehicle capacity. I’m inclined to put a ball on the bumper & go fishing, but I was wondering if anybody else ever wound up in this situation and what ya’ll did.

  1. Go for it, what are they going to do… take your birthday away? If it doesn’t state anything about it in the contract, why not? You rented a truck, where does it say you cant use it like a truck?
    Have fun fishing!

  3. Go ahead & tow. A couple years ago I drilled & mounted a hitch inside the trunk of a Ford Fusion to get a little bass tracker home. Afterward, just put all the covers in place.
