RV insurance can get expensive if you don’t look in the right places. Understanding what you need and what you don’t need can save you money.

Insuring Your American RV Motorhome

By H Robinson

Buying an American RV is a huge investment, one which takes careful consideration to ensure you get the motorhome to suit your needs in terms of size, accommodation and extra features. Once you’ve made that decision, and found your ideal RV, you’ll want to protect it with a specialist motorhome insurance policy.

One point worthy of note is that some specialist motorhome insurance policies will only cover UK and European motorhomes so it’s worth searching online for companies that specifically say they can cover American RVs.

When looking for insurance, be sure to find a policy that covers the full value of the vehicle and any equipment you intend to take along with you. A standard motor insurance policy is unlikely to cover all your essential motorhoming equipment such as awnings, water and waste carriers, pots and pans and generators, so ensure the cover you choose does. Very often specialist RV motorhome insurance policies will cover several thousand pounds worth of such items automatically.

As a high value motorhome, you may be required to fit extra security to find insurance cover. A tracking device fitted to your American RV will not only provide peace of mind that your motorhome will be recovered if it is stolen, but it could also mean a substantial discount off your insurance premium. Before investing in a tracking device, ask your insurance company what their requirements are and which devices they will accept as there are many products on the market.

One of the benefits of buying an American motorhome is the amount of accommodation space you get compared to some European motorhomes. It is therefore more comfortable for longer trips with more storage space too. If you fancy heading out in your motorhome for several weeks or even months, you’ll have plenty of time to explore outside of the UK, taking in some of the countries across the channel. If you do plan to travel through mainland Europe, look for an insurance company that will cover you wherever you are planning to visit or travel through, and for the length of your planned trip.

Another consideration if you are travelling to Europe is whether your tracking device will still cover you. Make sure the device you choose is capable of tracking your American RV in every country you are likely to visit.

Whether you plan to holiday in the UK only, or venture farther afield to Europe, you should certainly consider taking out breakdown cover with your insurance policy. This may be included in the price of your premium or it may be something you can add. Either way, be sure to ask whether the policy is suitable for American RVs. You may find that the breakdown company will only recover vehicles up to a certain length or weight and your American motorhome is too big. Look for a policy that offers breakdown cover with no length or weight restrictions – don’t wait until you breakdown to find out.

Finally something you may find interesting is that some American RV insurance policies offer cover on a ‘replacement with new’ basis. This means if your RV is stolen and not recovered or written off, you will get a brand new replacement RV motorhome. This can apply for motorhomes up to two years old and can be a great benefit for those owners unfortunate enough to lose their motorhome.

With all the above considerations in mind, you’re now ready to find the most suitable American RV insurance policy for you and your motorhome and protect it should the worst happen.

Finding Cheap RV Insurance Rates and Great RV Coverage

By Spencer Arnold

Finding competitive RV insurance rates is a great way to cut down on the cost of owning an RV. Besides, most people today would be glad to save a few hundred dollars a year on RV insurance. In most cases, RV insurance coverage is required by law, but it is also a key way to protect your investment. While cheap RV insurance rates may be appealing, you also want to make sure that you are properly covered – otherwise, it could end up costing you much more in the long run. Because your RV is a home on wheels, you need to make sure that it is covered as both a home and a vehicle. Just as home owners insurance covers you in the case of natural disasters, and automobile insurance covers you in the case of accidents, so too should your RV insurance coverage should cover you in both the case of disasters and accidents.

Before you begin shopping for insurance, determine your situation. Rates vary depending on such factors as usage, storage location, and the type of RV you drive. If you are only using your RV part time for traveling, you can suspend your coverage when it is not in use, lowering your overall costs. The state, city and zip code where you store and drive your RV also make a difference. Depending on your flexibility, do some research into the zip codes with the lowest crime rates, or the areas with the lowest likelihood of natural disasters. Moving your RV to a slightly less convenient location, particularly if you only use it for vacations, may significantly lower your insurance costs. Finally, if you want to keep your overall fixed costs low, do some research into the cost of insuring a class A RV versus a class C (the latter tends to be cheaper to insure).

Once you have determined your unique situation, you can begin comparing costs between companies. It is smart to compare quotes from at least 3 different insurance companies. Be sure to look at premiums and deductibles in comparing quotes. Higher deductibles, both annual and per-incident, will lower your premiums; however, be sure to be realistic about how much you are willing to or are able to spend out of pocket. Although the low premium with high deductible may be appealing, in the event of an accident or incident, a too-high deductible could end up costing you your whole RV if you can’t afford to pay for the repair or replacement. When comparing quotes, also look into the option of bundling your services. Some of the larger companies offer discounts for multiple insurance policies, such as home-owners, auto, or life in addition to RV insurance.

Finally, consider other lifestyle factors that can help you get the cheapest RV insurance rates. Having a clean driving record, joining an association, attending a defensive driving class, being married, having a high deductible, and having a good credit score can all help to lower your insurance premiums.

He says he admired me for it. I told him right off that I would do anything to not have to work as much, because it was killing me with my bipolar disorder.(Bipolar is the only thing I have been diagnosed with so far,but It feels like something much much worse.) This condition makes it impossible for me to work any job in which I have to deal with the public in public places, about half the time, and it doesn’t give me more than about an hour’s notice to when I’m going to get that way. I’ve never kept a job more than 6 months because of it.
When I lost my second job, he said it was okay. He could handle my share of bills. When I lost my second job it was considered wrongful termination by the state, and he said as long as I could get unemployment we’d still be okay. It took a couple months, but I have unemployment now,and I am using the”time off”to clean for him, help him deal with his stresses, and most importantly, find free or low-income-oriented psychiatric help so I can get back on some ****** up experimental meds in the hopes of finding one that makes it so I can at least work again.(I had to stop meds before because the side effects made it way worse while having to work.) I am using the money to pay MY bills, including payments and insurance on a car that I drive him everywhere in because he doesn’t drive. So it’s basically like I have one job again, financially.
The money is not enough to pay my share of rent, and though I’d be happy living in my old place,an RV,he needs to live in a $700-a-month apartment. Every roommate we’ve had has flaked on the bills and now we’re alone again and things are tight. I pay my bills, he pays his and rent and the occasional movie or video game with his $10-an-hour job. We agreed that if I ever have any extra leftover from unemployment I would give it to him,but with food,I never do.
Now I got some Christmas money from my family, about $150. They all live very far away, but when I was with them we would always go shopping together for Christmas presents, even when I lived on my own because they knew that if they gave me money and not presents I would spend it on bills. My family and I agreed that after I moved here none of us would ever spend present money on bills; the only reason we don’t have actual presents is because we can’t afford to have them shipped, and plus it’s always”you were doing okay before without the money so spend it on presents for you!”. I even am obligated to call or write them to tell them what nice things I spent it on. But this, for some reason, just pisses my BF off! His family never gets him anything, not even for his birthday, and it has come up in many a nasty arguement that he thinks I should give my Christmas money to him for bills. My question is: What should I do? Should I break my family’s only Christmas”tradition”and recieve a lovely guilt trip from them about it,just to barely help with bills? What am I supposed to do when every time I start thinking about what they would have bought me if they were here, what to spend it on,he gets furiously angry and calls me,of all things, spoiled? I haven’t bought a single thing for me since my birthday,6 months ago,and it was the same deal then too. I can’t decide, am I wrong for wanting to?

It just makes me sick that they can have so much, but we have 2 incomes. Paying the mortgage, struggling to save money for my college fund and have to pull $200,000 out of our rears for a major house remodel in order to get out from under it.
How do they do it?

My attorney refused to ask my x for disclosure, so I did not know that my x had $15,000 in credit card debt. The divorce papers say she’s liable for debts she incurred from the day I walked out on her, and for all debts that are in her name, which these 3 revolving accounts are. But, she hasn’t paid and yesterday, after getting turned down for credit, I checked my credit online and found out that two of her credit card companies have put charge-offs on my credit, a third one is about to, because she’s 190 days past due on it, and she never paid the phone bill so Embarq has put a charge-off on my credit, too, for $150, which is the least of my worries, but my credit score is barely over 400 now. Everything else on my credit shows “paid on time/as agreed”. I’ve never made a late payment on anything my whole life.
I’m considering bankruptcy, but I own two homes (one is a rent house, both are mobile homes). The industry I work in is winding down and I had planned on moving into the landlord business. I’d planned to purchase an RV park, not only as a new career, but as my only retirement income, as well. I’ll be 50 years old in a few months. I don’t have years left over to build more credit.
Suing my x for whatever she owes me will not do any good, because she refuses to work, doesn’t have a job skill and will surely never pay me once I win in court.
My income is excellent, and I may make too much for Chapter 7. Also, one of my homes is in a mobile home park inside a city limits. My main home sits on 2 acres in a subdivision, outside of city limits. I’m concerned that if I file bankruptcy, I won’t be able to keep both houses. I also have two cars. One is a junker that my X trashed and gave back to me while the divorce was still pending. I owe less than $2,000 on it. The other car is very nice, only 2 years old, and I owe a lot on it. I’m paying on all this, on time. My only concern is losing my homes and the good car.
Personally, I have no other bills besides the two house payments and the two car payments & their insurance. I have no revolving accounts.
Given my plans for retirement and my unsteady job security right now, which do you think I should do, file or consolidate just her bad bills and pay them off over time?

One day, I might agree and think yes, this came on the heels of that right thing I did and he saw it, and understands lets say sharing, or forgiveness, or my cool temper with the grumpy neighbor…on another day, I might come out and say to him indirectly, you do not want this quality, you do not want to do what I do, do what I say….there are days I don’t want my kid to be like me. Ever think that way?
Okay, you want an example….Um, my son (12) said he wanted to be like me once a long time ago (8ish?). He likes the fact I built him a 5 story treehouse out of scrap wood, with a fireman pole you have to slide down to get out from. I am building a sauna from good pre-owned wood (from the dump), and other recovered scraps (bricks of shingles, etc) for the family, because we are Finnish, and I would like one and I think they will like one. I built the kids a 60 foot tall swing between two 90 foot tall white pines in our rather large yard, and the kids love it (The neightbors think I am nuts and so does a neighboring insurance man who told me my homeowners might cancel me if they ever knew…..whatever…) I am lower middle class, and I grew up higher middle class. Soooo, I would say financially, I/we have not done as well as where we came from, even though we both work full-time. Okay, here it is…I DON’T WANT MY BOY TO DO THE THINGS I DO !!! I WANT HIM TO DO/HAVE BETTER.Build with new wood. Have the olympic gym/swingset/store bought fort thing. I am not a carpenter, but I manage to create somewhat wfe things no one has died on yet…. I give my kids good things I think they will enjoy, since I cannot give them the things they want (horses, RV trips, a cabin, etc). Yet I still can’t fully accept the “high honor” from my son that he wants to be like me when he grows up. I don’t want him to turn out like me, scrimping, scrounging, make do with leftovers, taking “scraps from the master’s table” as it were. These are okay, but I find it hard to look him in the eye and tell him straight faced..”Everybody collects golf balls on the course cuz they are soooo darned expensive.” This is something I do that gives us exercise and free balls (some really nice Nike balls too), but I don’t want him to do this later in life. Please, Lord don’t let him folllow my example on this one. I’ll utter in prayer….
I ALWAYS hope that my (soon to be four) kids will do better than we do/did, and will aim high, even higher, so they might just experience things better. Just better. My life hasn’t been bad, I just know there are things I want him to steer clear of and pursue instead. What do you think? Can you accept a child’s I want to be like you compliment without reservations? And should we?
