Involved In A Motorcycle Accident With No Insurance?
I was involved in a motorcycle accident about 3 months ago and just got the settlement for my bike. Unfortunately I did not have insurance and have not been working because I had bad road rash and a separated shoulder from the accident. How do I go about getting loss of wages or is it to late. The doctor gave me paper work saying i should not lift objects with that arm. I did not have a job because I quit and was about to start a new one when the accident happened. Any info on what I can do. Thank you

The insurance company will set up a bodily injury claim for you – just tell them you were injured.
However, they do not pay medical bills/wages as you go. When you are done treating and have been released from the dr – they will have you sign a medical authorization so they can order copies of you medical bills/reports. You can get a letter from your employer about lost wages. Then they will extend an offer to settle your injury claim once and for all. When you and they agree on a number – they will have you (and your wife if married) sign a Final Release that ends your claim once and for all. Then you get the settlement check.
If you think you will be released from the dr in the near future – go ahead and let the adjuster know so he/she can get the process started.
Did you mention to the adjuster handling your claim that you were injured? If not, do so immediately. You will need to provide them with the medical report that confirms your dates of total disability and verification of your lost wages. The insurance company can usually get this information directly from your employer. You may be entiled to further compensation. It depends on what state you live in and the tort requirements for said state. You shouldn’t have any problem dealing directly with the insurance company. No need to get an attorney.
