Lojack On A Motorcycle Or Comprehensive Insurance?

I just bought a brand new bike and I live in Florida where bike theft is very big.
I want to get some protection as soon as possible. Comprehensive insurance which would cover theft will run me about 730 per year with a 500 dollar deductible. The Lo Jack unit will cost me about 800 installed and it is a one time fee, no monthly payments and it lasts forever.
The recovery rates on a bike with lojack are very good from what I’ve read, I just want to see what everyone thinks. These are the two options and please only answer if you have good knowledge of lojack and how well it works.
The only problem is that it doesnt cover things such as damage during theft, storm damage, and things that the insurance would (Then again it still has that 500 or 1000 dollar deductible). An alarm would possibly be an option but I’m leaning towards the two I discussed above.
Just let me know what you think because I dont want this bike leaving without me on it.

  1. For me the insurance, the insurance covers alot more than jsut theft, and that is all the Lojack covers at all.
I woul say do both, but form the way you talk that doesnt sound like an option.

  5. I believe that a LoJack system is very good, IF and I repeat if you see the culprit in the process of stealing it. However, by the time you find it missing , could it not be 6, 8, or even 10 hours later? In this case your bike has already made it to a chop shop, has been broker down, and its parts distributed.. In this case your comprehensive insurance will pick-up the tab afer the fact..However, most insurance companies will write you a check for the amount covered if your bike is not recovered..Now comes the question, will your insurance still pick-up the tab after Lo-Jack, has found your bike, or what’s left of it? I would go with the comprehensive insurance program.. But, that’s me , it’s your call..

  7. a good thief will disable lojack, they just had a show on tlc about it. the guy was in the car or on the motorcycle and had the device disabled within 2 min. and once your bike is gone , it’s gone. at least with insurance, if it is stolen , it’s covered , not to mention other probable causes of damage. P.S. nobody even pays attention to alarms anymore, and a good thief will disable one faster than you can say “where the **** is my bike!!”

  9. Go with the comp insurance, dont know what kind of bike you have but for my 04 XL1200 Harley Sportster my full coverage is $268.00 a year with a 250 deductable thru Dairyland INS.also I have the GAP ins from the dealer, with a 128db alarm on it…Most of the time bikes are stripped and sold for parts before you wake up in the morning..And there are all kinds of after market security items you can allso get,and they are all worth it …good luck

  13. I’d go with the Lojack, and there are other security options you can get for your bike as well.
An audible alarm, available at dealers like http://www.denniskirk.com will help deter morons who want to steal your bike
There’s also a product (can’t remember what it’s called) but it’s like clear fingernail polish that you “paint” on the underside of motorcycle parts (fenders, fairing) that is encoded with an ID number. The police can retrieve the numbers with a special instrument (like a blacklight).
Comprehensive insurance is expensive…but it’s ultimately up to you.
