Im looking to purchase a sailing Yacht the sort of 18-20ft with engine and spinica etc but i have 3 questions #1 do i need a liscence 2# can i take that sort of boat to foreingn countries #3 it it an expensive hobbie ie. mooring fees insurance etc

I have never owned a boat but i have income and a truck to haul it. I dont have a place to store it, but I can store it at the slip on the lake.
Payments, insurance, repairs – what kind of things do I really have to worry about before I buy a boat? Not should I, but if I do, what am I getting myself into? Do I need to learn how to use it or is it like driving a car?

In (South) Florida, what is the difference, if any, between getting a certification of completion of a boater safety course and getting your boaters license? I was backing the trailer in to load the boat, and when I hoped out I realized I had accidentally went down too far on the shifter into neutral, so the door shut and I was already half way across to my boat when I realized it was going down. It was completely submerged and running. Of course it died, and the tow truck driver said it wouldn’t start so don’t even try. Had anyone had any experience with this?

insurance is for people who have something to lose, if you harm someone or cause significant damage to property, do you have a lot of assets tat you could be sued for?
If so, then you need insurance, if not then don’t worry.
That goes both ways, if you have something nice, you should have insurance to repair or replace it should someone who is un/under insured cause a loss.

I am assuming that you mean a large power or sailboat and not an aluminum fishing boat at your local little fishing hole. You should be covered by the rental company, in my rental experience, I was charged a deposit that was equal to the deductible on the boat insurance policy. In any case, definitely check the rental agreement and if it doesn’t specify, ASK before you sign anything. Boats are not cheap and if it is in your possession, you are going to be held responsible for any damage.
